Marilyn Thomas (nee: Sleek), age 85, of Wadsworth passed away at Bath Manor in Fairlawn, Ohio on Thursday, May 19, 2016, after a long illness. She was born Marilyn Louise Sleek on November 27, 1930 in Patterson, Ohio, the daughter of the late Cloysey Sleek and Jessie (Gardner) Sleek. On July 1, 1950, after a short courtship, Marilyn married William Thomas in Gibsonburg, Ohio. Bill predeceased her on Oct 16, 1987.
Marilyn was a loving wife and mother and raised five children. She was also a very creative person and pursued many artistic activities over the years. She belonged to the Alter and Rosary Society at Sacred Heart Church, the Wadsworth Garden Club, volunteered at the W-R hospital, and was a Girl Scout leader.
She is survived by sons Richard (Nadine), David (Cindy), and Donald (Laura) Thomas – all of Wadsworth; daughters Patricia (Matthew) Steinkerchner of Kendall Park, New Jersey and Kathleen (Steve) DeQuoy of Belmont, Michigan; grandchildren Steven, Kevin, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Joshua, Katlyn, Ryan, Jessica, Jennifer, Eric; and 11 great-grandchildren.
One sister, Marguerite Wells preceded her in death, but she is survived by her sister Leah Holycross of Lima, Ohio.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place, Thursday, May 26, 2016 at 11:30a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 260 Broad Street, Wadsworth, Ohio, with Father Joseph Labak as celebrant. The family will receive friends, Wednesday, May 25, 2016 from 6-8pm at Cox-McNulty Funeral Home, 1376 High Street, Wadsworth, Ohio and on Thursday at Sacred Heart from 11am until the time of Mass at 11:30am. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Wadsworth, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Sacred Heart Church.
