Nathan Thomas Smith, age 39, passed away September 11, 2017 at Wyant Woods Care Center after a 20 year battle with Huntington’s Disease. He was born on August 9, 1978 in Barberton to Marianne (nee: Kin) and Richard Smith of Wadsworth.

He is survived his mother and step-dad, Marianne and Jim Madden of Wadsworth; brother, Ryan Smith of Akron; sister, Megan (Justin) Clark of Rockledge, FL; step-sister, Jennifer (Nathan) Kramer of Navarre, FL; niece and nephews, Kaylee, Vegas, and Ari Clark; and grandfather, Tom Kin of McCutchenville, Ohio. His many aunts, uncles, and cousins will warmly remember his fun loving spirit.

Preceding him in death are his father, Richard; grandparents, Bob and Jeanne Smith of Wadsworth; grandmother, Dora Lou Kin of McCutchenville, Ohio; aunt, Susan Kin; and cousin, Rollin Urrutia.

While young, Nat enjoyed summers on his grandparent’s farm in Wyandot County. He attended Sacred Heart School and was a 1998 Graduate of Wadsworth High School. He earned an Associate’s Degree in Culinary Arts from Pittsburgh Culinary School. He last worked as a Banquet Chef in Cleveland. His love for cooking continued, even throughout his illness. Nathan aimed to fill his short life with as many parties, adventures, concerts, and art and music creations as he could arrange. He succeeded at this.

The family wants to thank his buddy, Chris Rogers, for ongoing visits; his caregivers, Tracey Quinn and Mary Dunfee, who allowed him to stay at home, as long as possible; and his special aides, Troy, Charlene, and Ruby who made a nursing home bearable.

A Graveside Inurnment ceremony will take place, MONDAY, September 18, 2017 at 3:00pm at Woodlawn Cemetery in Wadsworth with Nathan’s cousin, Fr. Scott Hahn officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Huntington’s Disease Society of America: 505 Eighth Avenue, Suite 902, New York, NY 10018.
