Russell J. McCune

Russell J. McCune, 65, of Barberton passed away on Saturday, July 16 surrounded by family and friends.  He was born on June 10, 1951 in Barberton, Ohio, to the late Russell and Jean (Lynn) McCune.

Russ graduated from Barberton High School in 1969 and attended Kent State and The University of Akron. For 11 years, he worked at Seiberling and rounded out his professional career with The City of Barberton. Russ served on the Barberton City School Board for 16 years.

He believed in the spirit of community and the empowerment of youth. Taking away any barrier to participate, Russ championed scores of fundraisers to ensure children could participate in athletics. His heart was on the hardwood as a player, coach and referee while also coaching baseball and as founder of the Barberton Gridiron Club.

Though he would never say it, he was an advisor and mentor to so many. His guidance and passion for those in this community lives on in all of those he knew and loved. Russ was generous, thoughtful, respectful, and comedic but above all else, was all heart.

Russ is survived by his wife and love of his life, Jill (nee: Edgar); daughter, Lindsay (Chad) of Avon Lake and son, Russ of Willoughby.
 
The family will receive friends, Saturday, July 23, 2016, from 2-6pm at Cox-McNulty Funeral Home, 222 Norton Avenue, Barberton, Ohio. A Memorial Service will follow at 6pm at Cox-McNulty Funeral Home.
