Welcome to the memorial page for

Sandra Jean Oakes

July 19, 2016

Sandra “Sandy” Jean Oakes (nee: Bonner), age 72, passed away July 19, 2016 after a long battle with cancer.

Sandy was born in Glenville, WV and brought to Barberton at 5 weeks old.

She graduated from Barberton High School in 1962. She volunteered at Barberton Good Neighbors, and worked at Barberton Salvation Army. She was involved in scouts, PTA, and anything else that helped people. She had a great sense of humor and was the “Go To” person to the kids in the neighborhood.

She was the caregiver to her elderly parents Richard and Isa Williams and many other relatives.

She lived in Barberton for the first 49 years of her life, and in Chippewa Twp. (near Marshallville) the next 23 years.

She was known for her needle work, crochet and gardening.

Everything had to be perfect or not at all.

She loved children and could quiet a crying baby within seconds by embracing it and whispering gently in their ear. She loved animals of all kinds, especially her Basset Hound, Sophie.

She is survived by husband, Bob; children, Gary (Susan) Oakes, of Clearwater, FL and Virginia (Steve) Toth of Sharon TWP.; grandchildren, Jessica Oakes Hall of Lisbon, OH, and Josh and Taylor Toth.

She will be greatly missed, but now is free from the pain and other things brought on by cancer.

At her request there will be no viewing or services. Cremation was also at her request.

We would like to thank all the Doctors and caring people who used the latest technologies and just good old fashioned love and caring to prolong her life.

Instead of flowers, please make donations to your favorite charities in memory of Sandy.
