Alice Grubaugh Obituary

Alice F. “Sally” Grubaugh went to be with the Lord early Monday morning July 8th, 2019.

Alice was born on January 22, 1940. She was the youngest child of Nellie and Sheldon Lear and was the last member of her immediate family.  Sally was preceded in death by husband, William D Grubaugh, and two of her children, Debbie Ellis and Pat Grubaugh. Also preceded in death by second husband, Karl E Grubaugh, and step-son, Paul Grubaugh. Additionally preceding Alice’s passing was granddaughter, Amber Nichol Ellis, at just 5 years of age.

Sally is survived by five children, Bill, Mike, Joleine, Cathy, and Mark; and three-step children, Karl, Janet and Jackie.

Sally was blessed with a large family. To the best of our knowledge she had 39 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren with and additional 4 on the way.

Sally loved to bake, and she made the best bread, pecan rolls, pineapple squares, date filled sugar cookies, pies and homemade doughnuts. It was told that she could take chicken wings and make a gourmet meal from them. Sally was very youthful, fun loving and especially enjoyed music of all genres, playing Bingo and going to garage sales. We are certain that she is now dancing in the presence of the Lord while we are celebrating her life.

Looking back at Sally’s life, she experienced many hardships but always found a way to get through them. She had polio as a child and endured many surgeries as a result. She was both married and a mother at a very young age.  While overcoming many obstacles, raising seven children with the youngest (Mark) having profound cerebral palsy, she did so with love and determination to succeed at all cost and sacrifice.  She suffered an aneurysm rupture in 2006 that nearly ended her life. Sally also suffered a stroke in 2007. Although forever changed physically, she remained dedicated to her family. As dementia took its toll on her she never stopped loving her family. She would often say “I love my children, all of my children”. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Please join us in celebrating her life. Calling hours at the Cox-McNulty Funeral Home located at 222 Norton Ave, Barberton, Ohio on Friday, July 12 at 11AM. The service will be held at 12PM. She will be laid to rest at the Greenlawn Cemetery on Romig Rd, Akron Ohio. There will be a short service at the chapel following the funeral.
