Edward G. Ponikvar passed away November 21, 2018 at the age of 89 surrounded by family. He was born in Thomas, West Virginia on November 9, 1929 and presently was a resident of Norton.
Ed served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. Early in his professional career, he opened the first Holland Oil gas station on 224 E. Market Street where he ran the station for more than 25 years. He continued to work for Holland Oil until they sold to Circle K. Most recently he worked as a supervisor for the Barberton Police Department for their Crossing Guard division. He was one of 17 children. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Sharon. He is survived by his current wife, Mary, and their 3 beloved dogs, Bernard, Benny, and Betsy; children, Robert (Kathy), Timothy (Vicki), and Melissa (Keith); grandchildren, Jill (Kevin), Robert, Anthony (Stacey), Tina (Jon), Megan, Shane, Kathryn, Christine, and Crissy; great grandchildren, Meredith, Roman, Alexis, Anthony, Sterling, Jasmine, Lexi, and Izzy.
Funeral service will begin at 12:30pm at Cox-McNulty Funeral Home, 222 Norton Avenue, Barberton, Ohio on Tuesday, November 27, 2018. Family will receive friends from 11:30am until the service. Burial will be at 2pm at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery located at 10175 Rawiga Road, Seville, OH. In lieu of other remembrances, donations may be given to The Wounded Warriors Project and The Summit County Humane Society.
