Jack Steele Obituary

Together Again

Wadsworth resident, Jack W. Steele, 85, born in Creston on February 24, 1933, passed away on May 3, 2018 at Pleasant View Health Care Center, Barberton.

After graduation from Seville High School, Jack joined the Air Force during the Korean Conflict and proudly served at postings in New York, Texas, and Germany.  After active duty, Jack became a life-long member of the Wadsworth VFW, where he served as commander and proudly organized honor guards for military funerals.  He was also a member of the Wadsworth American Legion, the Eagles, and the Moose. While in the Air Force, he learned his trade as an electrician and worked for the city of Wadsworth as a lineman.  He was an avid fisherman and golfer; a world traveler, especially cruises, with his wife; and a talented gardener and lawn keeper.  He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and cherished his time as a father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his beloved wife, Jeanne Marie, whom he met when they both served in the Air Force; and brother, Terry.  He is survived by his son, Steven (Mary), and daughters Karen Hoffman (George) and Susan Holland; his grandsons Jamie and Alex (Carin) Marks; and great grandchildren Chloe, Paige, Riley, and Wyatt.  He also leaves behind his cousin Dick Armstrong; brother Ted Ewing of Roseburg, OR; dear classmate Phylliss Leohr; wonderful neighbor Betty Beitzel; and Brad Holland, a dear man whom Jack considered to be his son.

A memorial service will take place Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at 9:00 am at Cox-McNulty Funeral Home, 1376 High St., Wadsworth, OH  44281 with Chaplain Don Bolich officiating. Committal service with full military honors will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Seville. Family will receive friends 8-9 am prior to the service at the funeral home.
