Joanna Lynn Hershberger, 40, of Wadsworth, passed away November 29th, 2017 after a long illness.
Joanna grew up in West Falls, NY, and spent her summers working as a camp counselor at Camp Cherith in Hunt, NY. She was part of the marching band at Holland High School, class of 1995. She met numerous friends and her husband at Malone University in Canton, OH, where she was a member of the Women’s Ensemble. She worked as an elementary school teacher at Summit Academy in Canton and Akron, then as an LD tutor at Highland Middle School in Medina. Her love for students also led her to volunteer as a youth leader at Cornerstone Chapel in Medina for many years.She enjoyed nature hikes, camping, painting, gardening, and listening to music. A devoted mother, she fostered a love of art, reading, and creativity in her daughter. She raised funds for the National MS Society and attended the annual Walk MS event in her wheelchair every year that she was able. In recent years she lived at Wadsworth Pointe where she was known as a formidable bingo and hangman player, as well as a friend to the residents and staff. Joanna was known by all for her kindness, generosity, and her sweet smile. She was a follower of Jesus Christ and looked forward to spending eternity with her Lord.
She will be dearly missed by her husband, Mark; daughter, Abigail; parents, Floyd Stoehr, Jr and Debbie (Boies) Stoehr; brother, Mark (Kathy) Stoehr; sister, Naomi Taylor; brother, Peter (Sarah) Stoehr; 10 nieces and nephews; and many extended family members and friends.
Friends may call on Monday, December 4, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Cox-McNulty Funeral Home, 1376 High St, Wadsworth. Funeral service will be held, Tuesday, December 5 at 10 a.m.
We wish to thank the caring nurses, aides, and therapists at Summa Hospice, Magnolia nursing home, Wadsworth Pointe nursing home, and Heart to Heart Home Health Care.
