Welcome to the memorial page for

Keira Marie Sands

May 7, 2017

Keira Marie Sands was granted her angel wings on May 7, 2017. Keira’s life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by her understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives.  Her gentle smile could melt the hearts of those around her and though she never spoke a word, her voice and thoughts could always be heard.

Although Keira’s illness made her appear frail, she possessed strength, perseverance, and an ability to overcome incredible odds and physical challenges.  With her courage, she led us to believe that each day is a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories.  She could spend hours watching her colorful spinning light, listening to her stories and cuddling close to foster Mom and Dad. She loved listening to children playing while out at the store or on a stroll with foster Mom and Dad. Keira went on her first camping trip recently and loved sleeping so close to everyone. It was one of the few nights that Keira was happy about bedtime.

With Keira’s passing we remind others that her life is one to be celebrated. We will miss her every day, especially her contagious smile and big brown eyes. We are so thankful for her foster sister, Jessie who was her nurse, her loving foster siblings, Kirsten and Robb and her nephew, Francisco.

Keira leaves behind many wonderful caregivers that provided love and support that enhanced her quality of life. Keira’s love extends to all of the people that made up her care team at Akron Children’s Hospital – Dr. Hirsh, Stephanie Allen, Erin, Denise and the entire Palliative Care team- Dr. Baird, Dr. Ritzman, Dr. Enlow, Dr. Bhatia, Dr. Nelson, Dr. Bower, Dr. Nwankwo, Dr. Taylor, Dr. Messemer, Dr. Pittinger, Dr. Gerstenmeier. Lisa and Marcia at Summit County Children’s Services, Cindy and Mary K at Ohio Guidestone, and her wonderful school nurse, Penny Schlairet. She will be missed by all her special “friends” at Windfall School in Medina especially her teacher, Lori Pyle. All of these people provided Keira with love and dignity in her life.

Keira leaves behind her parents, Jessie Bozzelli and Chad Sands and sisters, Sasha and Tina.

Keira is also survived by her loving foster parents, Bob and Karen Buccigrossi, her foster siblings, Kirsten, Jessie, Robb Buccigrossi and her foster nephew, Francisco. Many extended family and friends whom Keira has touched will miss her as well.

Private services have taken place.

Donations may be made in Keira’s name to Summit County Children’s Services.
