Laura Scheuermann Obituary

Laura Mary Scheuermann, age 94, passed away Thursday, February 7, 2019, at the Avenue Skilled Nursing Facility in Wooster after a period of declining health.

Laura was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on January 4, 1925, to the late Joseph and Stephanie (Rosienska) Harubin.  She married Edward C. Scheuermann on August 21, 1947.  He preceded her in death on January 27, 1974.  Also preceding her in death was a daughter, Deborah Foulger April 24, 2015; sisters, Anna Harubin, Genivieve Ciecierski, Irene Sangrik, Lottie Dryzak, and Stella Rygalski. 

Laura graduated cum laude from Ursaline College with a degree in English.  She taught immigrants English shortly after she was married. She later taught for 8 years at St. Charles Catholic School in Parma, Ohio, before moving to Hinckley with her family.  There she taught in the Highland School district from 1962 to 1984 before retiring.

Laura had many hobbies and interests. She traveled extensively both domestically and internationally. When she was home she spent her time pursuing her many hobbies including reading, basket weaving, ceramics, writing poetry, going to garage sales, knitting, crocheting, playing Bridge and Bingo. She was a tireless volunteer with the Red Cross Grey Ladies for over 20 years at Wadsworth Hospital. She was the president of the Lively Seniors and a representative for Medina County Seniors on the Ohio Western Council for Older Citizens.  She was also a poll worker in Medina County and was a member of Friends of the Library in Wadsworth helping with many book sales. Despite her many activities, being with family was her favorite way to pass time. She was greatly loved by all her family and will be especially missed by her daughters, Lynn (Bob) Young, Karen Tanksi, and Lauren (Barry) Muha; brother, Larry (Marge) Harubin; sister-in-law, Dolly Gibbs; 6 grandchildren: Laura (Mark) Schumann, Molly (Jason) Loch, Matthew Barron, Eddie Foulger, Naomi (Chris) Petrotta,  and Lonny (Jeanne-Marie)Young; 12 great grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 280 Broad St. in Wadsworth, Ohio at 11:00 on February 14, 2019.  There will be no viewing.  Burial will take place directly after mass at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at 10175 Rawiga Road, Seville, Ohio.
