It is with great sadness that the family of Richard John Rees announces his passing after a long battle with dementia on August 8, 2018, at the age of 77.
A resident of Barberton, OH, since 1975, Richard was born on March 20, 1941, in Lakewood, OH, to John Rees and Nellie Rees (nee: Twigg).
Richard will be fondly remembered as a man who never met a stranger, but a friend. He was a loving husband and father; a savant of humor; a world traveler; a gun and history enthusiast; and a passionate reader with an immense appreciation for public libraries. Richard retired from N&S Railroad after 30 years of service. Too, as an avid volunteer in various areas, he shared his passions with many, finding exceptional pride in his years volunteering at M.A.P.S. Air Museum. He was a proud patriot and an honorable veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Richard is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 44 years, Loretto Rees (nee: Henry); his daughters, Robin Rees and Rebecca Rees; and his grandson, Evan Rees. He will also be remembered by his sister, Cathy Fox, along with many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and a multitude of extended family and friends.
The family wishes to extend their dearest appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Summa Barberton Hospital Hospice for their unwavering kindness and attention during the days leading up to Richard’s passing.
Private family services were held. Memorial donations may be made to Barberton Public Library, Attn: Melissa Futrell, 602 W. Park Ave., Barberton, OH 44203.
