Althea G. Childers

Althea G. Childers, age 85, went home to be with the Lord on July 22, 2021. She was born December 23, 1935 in Marsteller, PA, and lived in the Barberton and Norton area for the last 60 years.

Althea had a big heart, and her door was always open for anyone. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, knitting, and sewing, and was a great baker.

Preceded in death by parents, Adolph and Margaret Lute; husband, Jack W. Childers; son, James E. Leach Jr.; daughter, Angela K. Childers; four brothers; and three sisters.

Survived by daughters, Jean (Ray) Blake of Norton, Jeanette (Dennis) Weaver of Norton, Robin Webb of Barberton, and Pamela (Darrell) Green of Clinton; son, Jack (Melissa) Childers of Stow; 17 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren with 2 more on the way. She loved all the grandchildren and raised her special grandchild, Colin.

The family would like to thank the entire staff of Crossroads Hospice for the wonderful care of Althea and her family. They went above and beyond.

Funeral service will be Monday, July 26, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Cox-McNulty Funeral Home, 222 Norton Ave, Barberton with Pastor Bob Weiss officiating. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Akron. Family will receive friends from 1-2 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
