Candice Lane Darlak

BARBERTON – Candice Lane Darlak, 71, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 16, 2022.  

She was born on January 11, 1951 in Akron, graduated from Garfield High School then resided in Barberton with her husband George the remainder of her life working for the Barberton School System as a head cook for nearly 40 years until retirement.  She absolutely thrived in her position, enjoyed interacting with students and met many lifelong friends during her stint which she was extremely grateful for.  In addition, she was a confidant to many, always lending a sympathetic ear or helping hand whenever needed.  

Candice was preceded in death by her loving husband, George Darlak, her parents, James and Ethel Corbin and siblings, John Corbin, Kathy Jones, Terrace Sheridan, Donna Buck and Deborah Smith.  She leaves behind daughter, Sonni Pinkerton (John), siblings James (Victoria) Corbin, Sandra (Keith) Kline, Shelby and Sydney Corbin whom she and George joyously considered grandchildren along with several nephews and nieces and their children, all whom she adored.  She also leaves behind many in her husband’s family which she loved. 

Calling hours with no viewing are this Saturday, September 24th between 2-4pm at Cox- McNulty Funeral Home in Barberton.  She will then be laid to rest next to George at Greenlawn Cemetery during a private ceremony, date TBD.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hospice of the Western Reserve, Haven of Rest or the Humane Society.

Candice’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the entire staff at Western Reserve Hospital, especially the ICU team for their professionalism, compassionate care, patience and exemplary communication.  She couldn’t have been in better hands.

Mom – you inspired JJ, spoiled Milo & for several other reasons too expensive to list I’ll be forever proud to be your daughter.  Please give dad a big hug for me! Love you both always ~
