Carol L. Sopko

A soul winged its way to Heaven when Carol L. Sopko left this earth on May 21, 2023. She was born in Akron, Ohio on April 19, 1934, to the late Lucy and Okey Hinzman.

She had many interests during her life, crafting with her grandchildren, sewing, quilting, painting, genealogy, and loved cooking and baking. After working at PPG and Goodyear Aerospace, she was an at-home Mom during her children’s early years, served as a den mother and held various positions in PTA. She was an Akron Public Schools secretary, retiring with 27 years of service. Her love of country music led her to the Ohio Country and Western Music Association where she served as secretary of the Akron Chapter.

Preceded in death by her only sibling, Brady “Jack” Hinzman. Carol is survived by her husband, Charles Sopko; sons, Charles (Kathy) Sopko and Craig Sopko; daughter, Christi Beverlin; grandchildren, Alisa (Derek) Herbert, Amanda (Aaron) Markwalder, Kimberly (Patrick) Dye, Tyler Beverlin, Nicholas (Sarah) Sopko, Jillian Sopko; and eight great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, June 9, 2023, at 5:00 PM at Cox-McNulty Funeral Home, 222 Norton Ave., Barberton, OH. The family will receive friends prior to the Celebration, from 3:00-5:00pm at the funeral home. Private inurnment will take place at Manchester Cemetery.
