David Craig Obituary

Rev David Carson Craig passed away Jan 2, 2021 after a short battle with COVID at Chapel Hill Community in Canal Fulton.  David was born on Nov 17, 1935 an only child to Roy and Sarah Margaret Craig in Mansfield OH.  He graduated from Ontario High School and went onto study agriculture at The Ohio State University.  His faith in Christ persuaded him to change from agriculture to ministry.  He transferred to Wittenberg University and enrolled in the Hamma School of Divinity receiving a Bachelors and Masters degrees.
David was ordained in 1961 and served congregations in Bluffton, Heath, Tiffin and retired from First Lutheran in Barberton in 1998. In retirement, he continued to serve various congregations in NE Ohio on an interim basis.  His love and devotion to serve is what made him happiest and why he will be missed by so many.
David’s wife and best friend, Beverly (Hagen), was always his foundation that he could rely on in his years in ministry.  He loved traveling with Beverly and visiting family and friends along the way.  David loved fishing and crossword puzzles.  He also enjoyed watching OSU football games, but his favorite part was listening to TBDBITL.  His well-crafted stories would always get a chuckle, but that ability was robbed with his advancing dementia the last few years of his life.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Margaret Craig, and also daughter, Diane, and son, Brian.  David is survived by his wife of 60 years, Beverly; son Stephen (Misty) Craig; grandchildren, Brian Craig Jr, Robert Craig, Ethan Craig and Grace Craig; and great-granddaughter, Sawyer.
The family wishes to express special thanks to the staff at Chapel Hill Community for their loving care of David over the last year.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Chapel Hill Community or Alzheimer’s Association.  There will be no calling hours due to COVID and a private service will be held.  A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
