Elizabeth L. Nelson, 93, passed away December 26, 2023. Born September 18, 1930 in Akron, Ohio, she lived through the Great Depression and World War II. Betty chose a nursing career in various fields, retiring from Akron City Hospital with 38 years of service. She was a loyal Cleveland Indians fan, having been in all three Cleveland Stadiums throughout her life. She loved to travel and enjoyed what she called “adventures.” Betty was a loving Grandma and Nana, playing with and “instigating” naughtiness with the children.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; her parents, Otis and Frances Craven; her three siblings, a son-in-law, and several nieces and nephews. She is survived by her four children, Phillip (Kim), James (Eileen), Phyllis Strickler and Cynthia Harrigan (George); 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, from 6-8 p.m. at Cox-McNulty Funeral Home, 222 Norton Ave., Barberton. Funeral service will take place Thursday, January 11, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Zoom participation available.** As cremation has taken place, burial will be held privately.
