Floyd Homer Hachtel entered death’s deep sleep on October 19, 2025. Born on June 21, 1930, he always liked to say he was in his “96th” year because it sounded older than 95. His life was full and active up until the very end, which was exactly the way he wanted it. The most important date of his long life was September 19, 1948, because that is when he was baptized, dedicating his life to Jehovah God and becoming a footstep follower of God’s son, Jesus Christ. From that day forward, he put his all into declaring the good news of God’s Kingdom from Medina, Ohio to the Philippine Islands where he served as a missionary for nine years, coming back to the states after marrying Geraldine “Jerry” Kennell to raise a family.
Anyone who ever visited his apartment knew he always had a project in the works, and that he had an affinity for duct tape and command strips with an obvious preference for function over form. In 95 years, he touched the lives of many, and anyone who knew him will have a story or memory to share.
He was preceded in death by wife Geraldine, daughter Beth, parents Herbert and Mary Hachtel, sister Ila Hormel, and an infant brother. He is survived by daughter Mishael Reese (Mitch), granddaughter Emily Reese, sister Marilyn Vierheller (Dave), numerous nephews, nieces, and dear friends who all look forward to seeing him again in the resurrection promised by God. Until that time, he rests in the safety and infallible memory of Jehovah.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 5838 South Cleveland-Massillon Road in New Franklin, Ohio at 4 p.m. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service.
