Harry James Wiant passed away at his home in Barberton, OH after battling health issues for some time. He was 79 years old.
Jim was born in Brookville, PA July 10, 1944 to Robert Wallace Wiant, Sr. and his wife E. June Davis., both of Clarion, PA.
Jim survived a bout with polio as a four-year old but never let that stop him. Moving out to Barberton, Ohio from Clarion at an early age, he graduated from Barberton High School in 1965. Jim had a strong work ethic, working for a local nursery along with other jobs over the years. He spent many years helping with the annual soap box derby; and assisting with the sports programs at Barberton High School. He received several certificates of appreciation for his support and participation in the programs.
He is survived by his sister Joan Pletcher, Clarion, PA; brothers: John Wiant, Clarion, PA; David W. Menge (Pat) Colchester, CT; and Paul Wiant (Sue), Lompoc, CA; sisters-in-law: Judy Wiant, Marble, PA; Diana Wiant, Fairlawn, OH; brother-in-law Ed Preston, Clarion, PA; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Jim was predeceased by his parents and the following siblings: Robert W. Wiant, Jr., Richard D. Wiant, Betty Ann Preston, Baby Girl Wiant, Harold Arthur Wiant; brother-in-law: Harold E. Pletcher, Jr.; and sisters-in-law: Bonnie Wiant, and Darlene Wiant.
The family will receive friends Thursday, November 9, 2023, from 3:00-4:30 p.m. at Cox-McNulty Funeral Home, 222 Norton Ave., Barberton, OH, with the service to follow at 4:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Barberton High School Athletic Department.
