Obituary

Our Dad, James Vincent Sclafani, went to be with the Lord in the evening of August 25, 2023. Jim was born on September 11, 1938 to Ada and Salvatore Sclafani in Brooklyn, New York. He grew up in Richmond Hill, New York and served in the Army and Army Reserves after high school. In 1961, he married the love of his life, Petrina (Pat) Insana, and they shared 49 beautiful years of marriage. They had three children, Susan, Carol and James, whom they raised in New City, New York. Jim worked at the New York Stock Exchange for various firms starting as a runner. After attending business school, Jim became a corporate bond trader working on Wall Street. He retired at the age of 59 with the position of Vice President for Morgan Stanley Dean Witter.  Upon retirement, Jim and Pat moved to the Four Seasons Resort in Lakewood, New Jersey in 1999. During retirement he enjoyed golfing, playing bocce, and traveling with his wife and family.  Jim moved to Wadsworth, Ohio to be closer to his family after his beloved wife, Pat, passed away. Jim was a hardworking man that loved his family above everything else. Throughout this life he made sure to show that love in everyway he could.

Jim was pre-deceased by his wife Petrina Sclafani and his sister Rosemary Brunjes. Jim is survived by his children Susan (Tom) Kaercher, Carol Neffenger and James (Julie) Sclafani, grandchildren Kimberly (Chris) Techentin and Thomas (Kelsey) Kaercher, Dylan, Gabrielle Neffenger (Claudio Andreu), Chase, Lancelot, Hunter Neffenger, James, Patrick and Joseph Sclafani and great-grandchild Addison Kaercher. He is also survived by loving sister-in-laws, brother-in-law, many nieces, nephews and life long friends.

A private family service is being held on Monday, August 28th, 2023, in Wadsworth, Ohio. A memorial mass will take place at St. Paul's Church, 82 Lake Road, Congers, NY 10920, on FRIDAY, October 6, 2023, at 11:30am. His final resting place will be at St. Anthony’s Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Inn at Coal Ridge. He was affectionately known as “Jersey Jim”. The care he received was phenomenal in his last months.
