Jeffrey Shawn Burcher, age 65, of Barberton, Ohio, passed away August 11, 2024, after battling cancer and lung disease for many years.
Jeff was born on May 22, 1959, to Wanda Jean and Charles Clare Burcher in Columbus, Ohio. Jeff is survived by his wife, Terri Burcher of Barberton; his son, Jeremiah (Ericka) Burcher of Indianapolis; his daughter, Rachel (Joel) Cavanaugh of Wadsworth; his stepdaughter, Leah (Jim) Bakula of Wadsworth; stepson, Matthew (Lisa) Jones of Parma; stepson, Andrew (Brandon) Stanford-Jones of Norwalk; 11 grandchildren; 6 siblings; and his baby, Brussels Griffon, Daphne. Jeff was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Michael Burcher; and his best buddy-his dog, Jimmy.
Jeff attended Indian Valley North High School in Gnadenhutten where he was in the marching band and (as he would proudly tell you) the smallest defensive tackle on the football team. He then attended Muskingum Area Technical College where he studied natural resources. He went on to use his degree, working for Diversified, (formerly Atlas Ohio, Viking Resources) for 41 years as a pumper.
Jeff was the oldest of seven children, and he loved to pick on and tease his siblings, all in a loving way, of course. He was always someone that looked out and cared for his brothers and sisters, even as they all got older.
Jeff got married to his wife, Terri, in June of 2015, after being together for a wonderful 20+ years. They loved having a blended family, and they worked together to keep communication and partnership a key in their marriage. They enjoyed so many vacations and adventures together traveling from the mountains of The Blue Ridge Parkway to the beaches and lighthouses of the Outer Banks. Terri will carry on his wishes as she plans to travel west, as that was to be their next adventure.
Jeff was an avid photographer and made many wonderful friendships exploring his love of nature and picture taking. He had an amazing group of friends that he would go on trips with and share his photos and journeys with: they dubbed themselves “The Static Brothers”. Jeff had a successful photography page, Jeff Burcher Photography, where you can see a glimpse into his brilliant artistry.
Jeff was a father for 42 years of his life, and his children, stepchildren, and grandchildren were his greatest sources of joy. He loved watching their accomplishments, and he thoroughly enjoyed play time with his grandbabies. He was the best hide-and-go-seek player and the scariest yet goofiest “monster”. He will be remembered for how well he loved and cared for his family.
Jeff was a selfless, loyal, funny, persevering, and talented man. He excelled at anything he tried his hand at, including athletics, academics, drawing, photography, music, board games, card games, and the list could go on and on. Yet, he would never brag. He was humble above all else.
There will be calling hours on September 1, 2024, at Jilbert’s Winery and Brewery in Valley City, Ohio from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. A private celebration of life for his immediate family will be held promptly afterwards. In lieu of flowers, donate to the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation, plant a tree, or take the family vacation that you have been putting off planning.
