Joan E. (Cook) Oliver Obituary

“For me to die is to live, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” II Cor. 5:8

Joan E. (Cook) Oliver, born April 4, 1935, passed from death to everlasting life on June 10, 2024, to rest safely throughout eternity in the loving arms of Jesus, her Lord and Savior whom she faithfully loved and served for over 70 years. At age 15, she became a follower of Jesus.

Joan graduated from Kenmore High School in 1953. She was a top Avon sales representative in the country for many years. She was active in many Bible studies including seven years with Bible Study Fellowship and was involved with the Newcomers of Wadsworth, Red Hats, and Christian Singles. She is survived by a loving and caring church family at King’s Way Church, where she was a member and actively served as a Sunday School teacher and worked with children for over 40 years. She also enjoyed her monthly luncheons with friends from high school.

Death is not an end, but a beginning, for Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life, he that believeth in me though he were dead, yet shall he live.” John 11:25. Joan is very much alive. She has just changed her address to Heaven.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Paul “Jack” Oliver in 2001; loving parents: Howard and Marie Cook; grandparents; an infant brother; special brother-in-law, Edward Gregory and great nephew, Tom Gregory, both of New York; and many other in-laws.

She is survived by her children: Greg (Andy) and Brad of Delaware and Robyn (Alan) Eastman of Medina; grandsons: Chad of Medina, Troy Eastman of Columbus; great-grandson, Bryce: great-granddaughter, Aubrie; sister, Elva “Penny” Gregory of New York; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; in-laws; and life-long friends, Helen Thigpen, Corinne Bacher and Nancy Adams. In her many years, God met her every need by providing those to help her whom she called her “special angels”. The family would like to thank them all for everything they did for Joan over the years.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at Cox-McNulty Funeral Home 1376 High Street, Wadsworth, Ohio 44281 at 1:00 pm, immediately followed by a Homecoming Celebration at 3:00 pm.

Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville, OH.
