Joan Staples

Joan Staples, age 90, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2022 with her family by her side.  She was born along-side her sisters, Jean  & Jane on a leap year, February 29, 1932 in Honesdale, PA to the late Francis and Ida Riker. She lived in Narrowsburg, NY until the age of 12 when the family moved to Los Angeles, CA.

In 1950, Joan married Douglas Staples and they moved back east. They then moved to Barberton in 1951 where they raised their family. Joan enjoyed gardening, especially roses. She enjoyed golf and was smitten by Tiger Woods. She also was a BIG fan of Waylon Jennings and Elvis. She enjoyed baking and sharing her pies with friends and neighbors.  Joan especially loved her children and grandchildren and spending time with family.

Preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Lowell Staples; daughter, LaDonna Haynes; siblings, Harold Riker, Jane Heaton, Lillian Buddenhagen, Evelyn Monisera, Mildred Baker, Gladys Kinney, Dorothy Schumacher- Maule, and Florence Antosh; and sister-in-law and best friend, Margaret Staples.

Survived by her children, Douglas (Yoonai), Gerald (Susan), and Linda (Dean) Clark; grandchildren, Sophia, Sonja, Jodi, Jered, Brandi, Jessie, Michelle, and Raymond; 5 step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Kylie, Haillee, Dominick, Izayah, Baillee, Jessie  James, and Michael; special nieces and nephews, Ruth Kellerman, Mary Ann Butler, Denise Oset Kean and Louie Buddenhagen; and friends and neighbors, Marty Brumbaugh, Joanne Marshall, Margie Henderson, the neighbors on Van Street, and Nick’s Pizza.

The family will receive friends, MONDAY, November 7, 2022 from 12:00-1:00pm at Cox- McNulty Funeral Home, 222 Norton Avenue, Barberton. Funeral Services will follow at 1:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Greenlawn Cemetery, Akron.
