John Hershberger Obituary

John Jay Hershberger, 70, of Wadsworth, Ohio passed into the welcoming arms of the Lord Thursday, October 14, 2021 after a fight with Covid.

John was born in Wooster on December 10, 1950. He lived in Rittman and worked at the PCA until he met the girl of his dreams, Mary, at the Wadsworth First Assembly of God. They married on November 6, 1971 and were soon to celebrate their 50th anniversary this year.  John and Mary lived in Granger Township for 47 years before moving to Wadsworth. They raised three sons; Mark, Andrew and Nathan. While in Granger Twp, John was a volunteer firefighter and later became an EMT. At the age of 40, John was able to earn a degree as a Registered Nurse. He took great pride in caring for his patients, while some even requested him for treatment. He was known for his large, but gentle hands that made injections and blood draws seem like nothing for his patients as well as gave the best handshakes and hugs.

Throughout the years, he enjoyed his time with his family and community. Some nights the boys and John would all end up studying together. He enjoyed raising Nubian goats and sold some to those doing 4H projects. He very much loved growing fruits and vegetables and spending time with family at the Medina County fair. John was an animal lover with a soft spot for dogs, in particular.

His grandchildren brought much joy to him. He treasured the time he spent with Abigail, Alexandria, and Hudson.  John was a very proud “Papa!”

John is survived by his wife Mary and their three sons and daughters in law; Mark (Susan), Andrew (Karie) and Nathan (Megan), sister Norma Hershberger and brother Leroy Hershberger. He is preceded in death by his father Clyde Hershberger, stepmother Mary Hershberger and brother Donald Hershberger.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 20, 2021 from 12:00 – 2:00 pm at Cox-McNulty Funeral Home, 1376 High St, Wadsworth, OH 44281. A service will be held immediately following. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Wadsworth.
