LaVonna Rae (Getz) McCaw ran into her Savior Jesus Christ’s arms on Wednesday morning, June 12, 2024, at the age of 46 after a short battle with cancer.

Born June 19, 1977, in Barberton, Ohio. LaVonna was preceded in death by her father, Earl Getz; and her grandparents: Jack and Virgene Looney. She is survived by her mother, Carol (Looney) Kearns; her sons: Benjamin, Ethan, Isaac, and Levi; her brother, Kevin (Wendy) Getz; aunts & uncles: David (Pam) Looney, Brian (Katherine) Looney; and cousins: Allyson, Matthew, Meaghan (Andrew) Wilburne, and Alexander (Becca) Looney.

LaVonna is a graduate of Lake High School in Hartville, Ohio and Cedarville University with a bachelor's degree in Women's Ministry. She most recently worked as the Kitchen Manager of Medina Christian Academy.

She was an amazing mom who homeschooled and enjoyed every moment of raising her 4 sons and was invested in all their hobbies and interests. She loved her cats, Shadow and Pippin, hiking, being outdoors, birdwatching, and was an awesome cook and baker. LaVonna had a contagious laugh and was a joy to be around.

LaVonna committed her life to Jesus at the very young age of 14. Her strong and unwavering faith was evident throughout all seasons of her life. She loved serving and worshiping with other fellow believers and friends from Freshwater Community Church of Wadsworth, Ohio and First Baptist Church in Medina, Ohio.

LaVonna will be buried at the Foxfield Reserve within the Wilderness Center in Wilmot, Ohio to allow her boys and mom to remember all their time spent there hiking, birdwatching, and being together.

Friends and family are invited to a memorial service on July 6, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Freshwater Community Church, 590 Hartman Road, Wadsworth, Ohio 44281. The officiant will be Pastor Jake Poole from Freshwater Community Church.

A huge thank you and hugs to LaVonna’s nursing staff and doctors on 7 East Floor of Summa Akron City Hospital especially whose attentiveness, generous kindness, and continuous care was second to none. You were all angels!
