Larry J Smart, 87, passed away peacefully on Sept 8, 2018, surrounded by his family. He was the devoted husband of Charlotte, for 65 years, and a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
Born April 24, 1931, to Larry and Mary Smart. Larry was a lifelong resident of Barberton and an active member of St. Augustine Parish. After graduating from Barberton High School he enlisted in the Naval Reserves. Larry, a hard worker his entire life, retired from F.W.Albrecht Grocery Co. (Acme) after more than 35 years. Not content to just retire, he and Charlotte together owned and operated Skoops Ice Cream for 10 years. He was the go-to guy in the neighborhood, always ready to help anyone, even clearing the snow from the sidewalks of the entire block while he was able. He was an accomplished woodworker and spent many hours in his garage workshop crafting gifts for his family. He enjoyed spending time at his mountain camp in Pennsylvania, the P&O Rod and Gun Club, which was the site of many wonderful family vacations and memories. Most of all, Larry was devoted to his family. We will miss him.
