Obituary

On September 7, 2023, Lyle W. Patterson, 87, of Barberton, Ohio went to be with his LORD. Lyle was born to parents, Cyril Patterson and Sarah (Patterson, Hance) Crispin on November 23, 1935. He passed peacefully in his home surrounded by love. Lyle served as a proud member of the United States Marine Corps and served during the Korean War. He valued his love for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, as well as his family and hard work. He had a very fruitful and long career. Lyle was a truck driver at Preston for 41 years. He drove the bus for Coventry Schools for 10 years. He became a courtesy driver at Van DeVere and drove 10 years for them. He also loved to volunteer his time and served at Summa Hospital for 5 years. Lyle loved walking and riding his bike. He was a very dedicated and humble spirit who poured love out to everyone he met, and he never met a stranger.

His family will remember him as a man who loved the Lord. A man that always shined his Jesus light bright. A wonderful example of a Godly husband and Father. He gave his tithes and offerings. He loved reading his bible and lead his family in prayer as often as he could. Lyle attended Grace Cathedral for 44 years (1979), where he found the salvation message through the television ministry. Lyle was a witness to many through his charming, witty, and loving nature. He has made lasting impressions on the hearts of many. To know Lyle is to know Jesus. He would want all those who love him to know Jesus too. He is alive and well in the presence of our Lord, and he would want you to accept Jesus as your Lord and savior, so you can join him there on that glory day. “Truly I tell you, anyone who hears my word and believes in him who sent me has eternal life and will not come under judgement but has passed from death to life” John 5:24.

Lyle was a loving husband of 69 years to his beautiful bride, Elouise (France) Patterson. The two made a legacy of true divine love that overflowed into their future generations. Together they had 4 beautiful daughters and lived a fulfilled and Christ centered life. Lyle was very involved in his grandkid’s lives. They have many fond memories of their grandpa. He was a strong leader and he instilled valuable wisdom and virtuous morals into his loved ones. His dedication and devotion to God and family will be treasured and missed by those who loved him most.

Lyle’s family would like to honor the many care givers he had throughout his 4 ½ years he was home with us. Two of whom have become family, Desla Cannon, and Jane Davidson. We have some precious memories and videos of him singing gospel songs that bring us all so much joy, Thank You!

Lyle is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 69 years, Elouise W. (France) Patterson, his daughters June (Dave) Kellar, Judy (Ernie) Kemppel, Cynthia (Tab) Harouff, and Wanda Patterson, 8 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 1 on the way. He is survived by brother Dale (Kathryn) Patterson; Jami Brown and Nancy Harper, who were like daughters to Lyle; and many more loved ones. He is preceded in death by his parents, Cyril (Sarah Hance, Crispin) Patterson, Brothers Wyatt (Ruth) Patterson, Keith (Val) Patterson, Richard (Jean) Patterson, and sister Gloria (Jim) Steverding.

The sisters would like to say a special thank you to their baby sister Wanda Patterson. The amount of strength, compassion, and love that you have provided our parents is immeasurable. You never complained, never made mention of the sacrifices it took to give of yourself so generously. Your love and heart are admired, appreciated and noticed by all those who loved our dad. You helped give us more time with him, give mom more time with her love. You gave him a beautiful life, he was spoiled and loved and so very well cared for. While we are at peace that his Earthly suffering has ceased, we are blessed to know that you made his suffering minimal with your amazing love and care. We love and appreciate you more than words could ever express our dear Wanda; Daddy is thankful too for all your love. May God bless your heart, mind, and soul for your sacrifice of love has been seen in our hearts and in the heavens.
