It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Kathryn Masters, of Portage Lakes, on July 22, 2024, at the age of 85 after a lengthy illness. Margaret, “Marge” to her family and friends, was born February 21, 1939, in Tallmadge, Ohio as the youngest daughter of Cecil and Ethel (McFadden) Thorn.

Marge attended Greensburg High School where she was active in F.H.A. and was crowned Strawberry Festival Queen, catching the eye of her high-school sweetheart and later husband, Charles Thomas Masters. The two married in Akron on January 12, 1957, later moving to Portage Lakes where they shared 67 years of long walks up Point Comfort, trips to Myrtle Beach and too many grandchildren’s sporting events to count. Marge was an avid gardener, a skilled artist in both ceramics and crochet, as well as a dog lover. Her love of her animals and hobbies were only eclipsed by her love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild. She will be remembered for her soft heart, strong wit, and unbelievable Thanksgiving noodles.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents: Cecil and Ethel; mother-in-law, Anna May Sipes; and sisters: Betty (Jack) Detwiler and Jaqueline Johnson. She is survived by beloved husband, Charles; sons: Ron and Roger; daughter-in-law, Tina (Brenn); granddaughter, Jacklyn; grandsons: Tommy and Johnny (Sydney Lindeman-Masters); and great-granddaughter, Eva.
