Marge Puderbaugh Obituary

Marge Puderbaugh

Age 92

Marguerite “Marge” Keating Keller Puderbaugh died peacefully on Sept. 12 in Canton, surrounded by her immediate family.

Born in Cumberland, Md. in 1929, she graduated from Ursuline Academy and the Notre Dame of Maryland University, where she majored in music. After teaching for several years in the Baltimore area, in 1955 she married fellow teacher Frederick (Fred) Puderbaugh, who grew up on the same street in her hometown. The couple moved to Ohio to take up teaching positions in Wellington and later in Barberton, where Marge also provided piano instruction to neighborhood children. In 1969, she retired from teaching to focus on her growing family, which soon relocated to Norton. As the parent of a special-needs child, she became involved in advocacy for that community, as well as other issues related to children.

A devout Catholic, Marge participated in the music ministry of every parish to which she belonged. In 1998, she and Fred retired to Davis, WV, where they enjoyed nature, sang in the church choir and performed with the Tucker County Chorus. As Marge’s health declined recently, the couple relocated to North Canton.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Frederick A. Puderbaugh of North Canton; her daughters Frances Mokodean (George) of North Canton, Ann Puderbaugh (Carroll Moore) of North Bethesda, Md., and Helen Murphy (Michael) of Wadsworth; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A daughter, Bridget Puderbaugh, died in 2021.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, Sept. 15 from 6-8 p.m. at Cox-McNulty Funeral Home in Barberton. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, Sept. 16 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Norton. Burial will follow immediately at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron.

Condolences may be sent to Fred Puderbaugh at Windsor Medical Center, 1454 East Maple St., Room 5409, North Canton OH, 44720-2634.
