Mary E. Davidson "Sam" age 77, passed away on February 3rd, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born on January 15th, 1949, and grew up in Barberton, Ohio.  

Sam cherished spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed living and then wintering in Florida. Sam loved the beach! She loved Key West, Jimmy Buffet, and a good margarita!

Sam was a Registered Nurse for 40 years. Her passion was her work at Akron Children’s Hospital Emergency Department, where she worked for over 20 years. She was not only known for her clinical excellence, but also for her gentle practice that brought comfort to babies, children and families alike. She is remembered for treating everyone with dignity and respect. As a nurse manager, she led with empathy and understanding, while never giving up patient contact.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Jean Wagner of Barberton, her mother-in-law, Rebecca Davidson, and her two brothers, Jeff Wagner and John Wagner.

Sam is survived by her husband, Don of 38 years; two daughters: Holly (Eric) Scott of Uniontown and Amy (Joe) Grotts of Jackson. Grandma was her favorite title, with five grandchildren: Jacob Watson, Maegan (Nick) Groves, Emma Francis, Izzy Scott and Ava Scott. 

Although Sam had countless friends, a special thanks to Barb Harp for her almost daily visit for the last few years.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt gratitude to Summa ICU and Hospice, as well as Dr. Taylor and Dr. Espinal for providing Sam with the very best care. 

The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Cox-McNulty Funeral Home, 222 Norton Avenue, Barberton, Ohio 44203. A Funeral Service will take place Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Cox-McNulty Funeral Home. 

A private burial will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
