Melvin (Mel) Robinson, beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family Thursday, May 4th, after battling a long illness.
He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin and mother, Johann (Cailet) Robinson; infant brother, Christopher Robinson; infant daughter, Angela Robinson; and nephew, Clayton Whitaker.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 14 years, Joyce (Cooke) Robinson; sister, Misty (Joe) Redpath; brother, Martin (Janet) Robinson; daughters, Jennifer (Steve) Kelly, Jackie Robinson; step-sons, Michael (Amy) Gregg, Brian (Jen) Gregg; grandchildren, Desiray Robinson, Samiir Kelly, Matthew Cunningham; step-grandchildren, Ryder and Harper Gregg; great-grandchildren, Mia, Marz, and D’Vinci; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Mel was born and raised in Massillon, OH. He played football for the Massillon Tigers throughout junior high and high school before graduating from Massillon High School. He attended Kent State University to obtain multiple certifications for his profession. Mel took an early medical retirement after 28 years of dedicated service from Meggitt Aircraft Braking Systems in Akron, OH.
Mel’s passions included cooking, grilling, building and racing/driving race cars, hunting, fishing, slot car racing and spending time with his dog Max, family, and friends. He was known for his giant sense of humor (he could always make you laugh). To know Mel was to love him.
Cremation has already taken place. A celebration of his life will take place at a later date.
The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff from Summa Barberton Hospice for their compassion and care in his final days.
