TOGETHER AGAIN--Molly Ann Shumate (nee: Rice), entered her Heavenly Home on January 19, 2023. She was born in Ohio to the late N.P. Rice on April 10, 1926.
She loved to sing and won a vocal scholarship as a teen and sang on a weekly radio program. She met and married a young soldier, Tom Shumate, on August 11, 1944 and they were married for 64 years. Together, they pastored churches in Illinois, Ohio and Florida; they served as Evangelists for many years and were on the staff of Rex Humbart for 4 years.
Molly gave to many charities. She was nominated by a local newspaper as “Mother of the Year”, for caring for her 3 grandchildren for 12 years, with its many duties.
She is remembered for being petite, fashionable, and taken for 20 years younger. She excelled in art, music, and interior decorating.
Preceding her in death were sisters, Dora Lutz of Ohio, Pat Koonz of Texas, Mary Rice of Oregon, Patty Teets of Ohio, and Sharon Cogar of Kentucky; and beloved husband, Tom.
She leaves behind her only loving son, Tom III; grandchildren, Morgan, Tom IV, and Taylor, all of Michigan; and brother, Joe Rice.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, January 27, 2023, at the Milton Presbyterian Church, 250 North Street, Rittman. Don Bolich officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Wadsworth.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Haven of Rest or the Salvation Army.
Molly will be greatly missed.
