Myers “Mike” Johnson, age 92, entered Heaven’s Gates on November 22, 2022. Mike was born in Donora, PA, April 22, 1930 to Chester and Thelma (nee Duncan) Johnson.
Mike is survived by his wife of 68 years, Norma (nee Barnhart); sons, Clayton (Pam) & Jonathan (Wilma); 5 grandchildren, 9 great grand-children, 2 great-great-grandchildren,; nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by, parents Chester & Thelma Johnson; and siblings, Cora, Bea, Earl, Jene, Shirley, and Elva.
Mike served in the US Army twice, once at the age of 16 (WWII) and then at legal age (Korean War). He earned the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and learned Korean quite well.
Mike was the caretaker and served as a trustee at Sharon Camp Meeting in Sharon Center for 29 years.
Mike retired from the Akron Barberton Beltline Railroad (Akron Barberton Cluster Railway) in 1990. After retirement, Mike & Norma spent the next 23 years traveling throughout the western US and Canada giving their volunteer service to Native Americans in New Mexico, Arizona, and Canada
After returning to Wadsworth in 2012, Mike attended the Wadsworth Nazarene (NOW), Doylestown Nazarene, and Sullivan Nazarene churches.
Mike and Norma moved to The Village of St Edward at Wadsworth in December 2021. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the aids, nurses & staff of St Edward’s for their tender care of Mike the final days of life, here on this earth.
A celebration of life will be held on Dec 10, 2022 from 1:00 to 3:00 at the NOW Church, 743 High St Wadsworth OH 44281. There will be a brief service followed by a time to visit.
