Ray Allen Brabson

June 3, 2022

Ray A. Brabson, 73, of New Franklin, Ohio passed away on June 3, 2022, after a brief illness surrounded by his family. Ray was born on June 7, 1948 to Ralph (Sam) and Mary Ann (Onusic) in Pittsburgh, PA.

After Ray graduated from Barberton High School in 1967, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and during his service he rose to the rank of Sargent. He was a stout patriot and loved his Country.

Ray had a very successful professional career ascending to the level of Plant Manager at Shincor Silicones. During his employment, Ray was the recipient of the “Summit County Safety Professional of the Year”. His interest in Health and Safety led him in a new direction and he transitioned from private industry to public and worked for the State of Ohio’s BWC – OSHA Onsite Division. While in this capacity, he fulfilled his passion to “send people home in the same condition they came to work” which earned him numerous friends, professional colleagues, awards and acknowledgements.

As a child, Ray was inspired by his mother’s enthusiasm for dancing and discovered his lifelong passion. He was a successful tap dancer who entertained many and taught for many years at various studios in the Barberton and Akron areas. Ray loved fishing and hunting with his father-in-law and children. He never watched a horror movie he didn’t like! He absolutely loved playing video games with his grandchildren and their friends. If one of them didn’t have the latest “Call of Duty” game, he was quick to purchase it for all of them so they could play online together.

Ray was predeceased by his parents, father and mother-in-law, John and Dorothy Laughlin, and brother-in-law, Joe McDowell. He is survived by his children Todd (Martha), Tressa and Tommy (Elizabeth) as well as his grandchildren, Tyler (Renee), Connor, Lauren, Owen, John and Jeffrey; brothers, Ralph and Tommy (Laura) Brabson; sister-in-law, Sally McDowell; nephews, Joseph (Laura), Michael (Dawn), Paul and Michael; and lifelong friend and second mother, Helen (Genet) Dorton.

A private celebration will be held by his family and expressions of sympathy can be made through donations to local dance affiliates. Ray and the family would like to give a special thanks to Dominic’s Rose Villa especially Anna Fana and her family who treated him like a son and brother.
