Richard L. Hamilton, 82 of Fairlawn, OH passed away Tuesday, April 17 surrounded by family and friends. He was born July 13, 1935 to the late Keenos and Emma Hamilton.
Richard graduated from Barberton High school where he was active in athletics including baseball and track & field. He attended Akron U. and served in the US Army. He then met the love of his life Elaine Hamilton (Meadows) whom he would marry in 1960 and remained together for 58 years. Richard remained active in sports playing baseball, softball, golf and bowling and began coaching in his later years. Although a Detroit sport fan at heart, he still always enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians and Ohio State Buckeyes.
He was preceded in death by his parents Keenos and Emma Hamilton and sisters Joyce (Phil) Bowman, and Norma (Bill) Iorio.
Richard is survived by his wife Elaine Hamilton (Meadows) and his children: Debbie Smith of Fairlawn, OH, Tammy (Todd) Garber of Manchester, OH, and Matthew (Amanda) Hamilton of Mason, Ohio. He is also survived by grandchildren: Renee Klusty, Amy Smith, Victoria (John) Hamilton, Taylor Smith, Stephen (Becca) Garber, Austin Garber and Brayden Hamilton.
Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Cox –McNulty Funeral Home, 222 Norton Ave in Barberton with Pastor Richard Lapehn officiating. Family will receive friends two hours prior from 1:00-3:00 PM
Interment will be in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Tuesday April 24, 2018. Flower donations may be made to Cox-McNulty Funeral Home.
