Robert Calder Obituary

TOGETHER AGAIN-- Robert (Bob) Calder, 98, passed away January 15, 2021 at the Inn at Belden Village, where he had been a resident since 2014. Bob was born in Glasgow, Scotland on August 18, 1922 to John and Isabella (Dickson) Calder and came to the United States at the age of two.
Bob graduated from Kenmore H.S. in 1940. He was a part of "The Greatest Generation" and proudly served his country in the South Pacific during WW II. He married the love of his life Dorothy Mae Bonebrake in 1943. Bob graduated from The University of Akron in 1949 and began a teaching career of 30 years in the Tallmadge and Akron Public Schools, retiring in 1978. Bob loved to read and he especially loved to play golf, often shooting his age beginning in his mid 70's. He enjoyed the monthly poker games with his old teaching colleagues and the friendly competition with his buddies from Spring Hills GC. He and Dorothy especially enjoyed their annual trips to Myrtle Beach
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dorothy, sister and brother- in- law Jean and Bill Starkey and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Edwin and Betty Bonebrake. He is survived by daughter Gail (Dennis) Lombardi, grandsons Todd (Julie) Lombardi, Andy (Jan-Marie) Lombardi and great grandchildren Tyler, Tommy, Calder and Cayson Lombardi.
The family would like to thank the staffs of The Inn at Belden Village and Crossroads Hospice and Palliative Care of Green for taking care of Bob in his final days.
Per Bob's request there will be no services and cremation has taken place. If you wish donations may be made to The Muscular Dystrophy Society or to The First tee of Akron.
