Robert E. Pope Jr., 89, went peacefully in his sleep to be reunited with his beautiful, beloved wife Gladys and his Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 3, 2021.
He was born in Akron, Ohio to the late Robert and Violet (Stookey) Pope and was a lifelong resident. Robert served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and worked 43 years as a tire builder for Goodyear. He was a long-time member and usher at The Chapel in Akron. He enjoyed fishing and camping with his children and later travelled often with his wife enjoying gospel concerts throughout the country. Most recently he enjoyed hiking the Akron Metro Parks and attending his great-grandchildren’s school and sporting events. He was a meticulous and brilliant man who cultivated acquaintances with everyone he met and cherished his friendships and family. He will be sadly missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Robert; sister, Donna; and son-in-law, James.
He is survived by his daughters, Deborah (Robert) Goins and Linda Holden; grandchildren, Jesse, Marcy, Chad, Ashley, Ryan, Elizabeth (Mitch), Katie (Nick); great-grandchildren, Jordan, Hailey, Chase, Leighton, Hayden, Ellis, Rowan; brother, Loren (Janet); and many other loving relatives and friends.
A private service will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Haven of Rest.
