Robert J. Sbory, age 55, passed away at his residence on August 2, 2023, following a courageous battle with non-small cell lung cancer.
Robert was born on April 12, 1968, in Barberton, Ohio to John and Norma Sbory. He was a graduate of Barberton High School, class of 1986. Robert was a devoted family man and friend to many. He was an avid gardener and a devout Cleveland Browns fan. His favorite place to be was sitting on his deck enjoying a few beers with family and friends while listening to music. The weekend ‘Name That 80’s Tune’ competitions were legendary.
Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Norma; brother, Mike; father-in-law, Scott DeLauder; and sister-in-law Bobbie McCunne. Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Laura; sons Evan, Robert Jr. (Alyssa), and Zac; granddaughter, Avery; special nephew, Brandon Sparks; father, John; siblings, Christine (Ron) Myers, Tim Sbory, Ann Sbory (Jeff Osborne), and Mary (Mark) Cogar; mother-in-law, Janet DeLauder; sisters-in-law, Karen Sbory and Loretta Hanna; brothers-in-law, David (Pam) DeLauder, Tim (Angie) DeLauder, and Scott (Jennifer) DeLauder; aunt and uncle, Lucille and Clem Hornacek; his dogs, Carley and Bumper; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank friends Maureen Shannon, Mark Lucas, Mike Sebe, and Francis Vislavsky for their support and help; his hospice nurses, especially Taunia and Theresa, for the excellent care they provided; nephews, Logan and Curtis Arvay and neighbor, Eric Salmons, for all their help in Robert’s final days. Special thanks to Robert’s son Evan for putting his life on hold for the past year to lovingly help care for his dad.
The family will receive friends Thursday, August 10, 2023, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Cox-McNulty Funeral Home, 222 Norton Ave., Barberton. Funeral services will follow immediately after. In keeping with the spirit of Robert’s love for the Cleveland Browns, the family asks that you wear your Browns gear.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family so that Robert’s son, Evan, can continue his college education.
