Roxie Williams Obituary

Roxie Belle (Patterson) Williams died peacefully April 17, 2018, just shy of her 100th birthday. She was born in Lake, Michigan on June 15, 1918 to Roxie (Cornell) and Romola G. Patterson. She is joined again with her parents, her brother Frank and her sisters Ola, Madge, Opal, and Edna who preceded her in death. Her family moved quite a bit when she was young, following her father to jobs as a schoolteacher, policeman, factory foreman, and a farmer. She told wonderful stories of her youth and experiences in different cities.
It is when they settled in Gallia County Ohio that she met her husband, Alva Loren Williams. They were married September 8, 1939, married for 68 years, and had three children, Robert (Marisa) Williams (Lancaster Ohio), Jean (Duane) Brown (Wadsworth Ohio), and Stephen (Gail) Williams (Wadsworth Ohio). They moved to Wadsworth, Ohio in 1953 where they raised their children. They lived at Christian Retreat in Bradenton Florida for a few years where they made many life long friends.
Belle attended business school in West Virginia as a young woman. She was proud of her work at Huntington Tent and Awning Co, The Ohio Injector and The Bearfoot Sole. She ran some of the first computers when they were initially introduced and used them the rest of her life. She traveled the world - visiting Indonesia, The Philippines, Luxembourg, France, and Germany.
She is preceded in death by her husband Alva and her son-in-law Duane Brown. She is survived by her eight grandchildren, Kenye (Billy) Jarrell, Amy (Jason) Barringer, Julie (Denise) Brown, Jennifer (Aaron) Link, Lisa (Tim) Bowman, Shelly (Mark) Rohrer, Patrick (Vanessa) Williams, Maria Williams and 15 great grand children.
Belle was a devoted Christian and was a long- standing member of the Ridgewood Baptist Church in Wadsworth. She loved to share her faith with those around her. She could recount stories from 10, 30, 50, or 90 years ago as if they were yesterday. She lived a long and fruitful life spreading joy and faith to everyone she knew. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
A celebration of Belle's life will be held at Ridgewood Baptist Church, 7891 Ridge Rd, Wadsworth, OH 44281, on Sunday, April 22nd. Calling hours from 1 pm to 2:30 pm with service at 2:30 pm. Graveside services will be held at a later date.
