Russell Samuel Deaton

It is with heavy hearts we announce Russell Samuel Deaton passed away July 6, 2023, after a swift but mighty fight with cancer. In true Russ fashion, he never lost his fighting spirit or sense of humor.  He would always proudly say, “where there’s a Russell, there’s a way,” and there couldn’t be a truer statement about his tenacity. His love for adventure, all things sports, and awful dance moves will never be forgotten. His larger-than-life personality will forever be in the hearts of his friends and family.

Russ is preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Russell Samuel and Elizabeth Stiver; his biological father, James Denham; and unofficial mother-in-law, Miyuki Buckler.

He will be deeply missed by his fiancé, Tina Buckler; his pride and joy - his three children - Nathan (Lyndsey), Matthew, and Johnny Deaton; siblings Wanda (Jason) Grenig, Spring Deaton, Gary (Charity) Deaton Jr., and Shawn Denham; his mother, Lilly, and adoptive father, Gary Deaton; granddaughter, Chloe Deaton; ex-wife and friend, Gracie Araiza; cousin Toni (Mike) Gillette; friend and unofficial sister-in-law, Mia Buckler; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Per Russell’s wishes, the family is having a Celebration of Life in honor of Russ. All are welcome to gather at Himelright Lodge - Cascade Valley Metro Park, 1212 Cuyahoga St., Akron, OH 44313 on Wednesday, August 16th at 5 pm.
