Ryan R. Smith died peacefully on December 28, 2022 with his mother at his side. He bravely struggled with Huntington"s Disease for 19 years. Ryan was born June 1, 1976 in Columbus, OH but lived most of his life in Northeast Ohio. Graduate of Wadsworth schools in 1994, he played tennis and trumpet in the jazz band. An avid skateboarder, his crew of 15 honed their skills across Wadsworth. 
He earned a B.A. in English & Anthropology from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH and worked for the college library. He hosted a heavy metal music hour on WRUW-FM and became immersed in the Cleveland Art and Music worlds. Ryan was a freelance music critic for Alternative Press and Scene magazines, groundskeeper at Blossom Music Center. His career highlight was working on the Warped Tour, traveling with the Black Eyed Peas and Ice T. Ryan lived a year in Brooklyn,NY absorbing the arts there.
His sarcastic wit and fierce independence sustained him through his declining years. He and his mother moved to Florida in 2018 where they enjoyed sun, concerts and pizza nights with his sister's family.
Ryan is survived by his mother Marianne (Jim) Madden, sister Megan (Justin) Clark, niece Kaylee and nephews Ari and Vegas, all of Rockledge, FL. A step sister Jennifer (Nathan) Kramer lives in Manassas, VA.
Preceding him in death is his father Richard Smith, brother Nathan, Uncle Larry Smith, Aunt Susan Kin, cousins Rollin Urrutia and Daniel Kin. Grandparents Tom and Dora Lou Kin of McCutchenville, OH and Bob and Jeanne Smith of Wadsworth.
A funeral Mass will be held January 7, 2023 at St Mary's Church, Rockledge  with Fr Juan Osorno officiating. Island Cremations is in charge of arrangements in FL.
Graveside inurnment service will be June 26, 2023 at 2 pm in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wadsworth.
