Sue Ann Cummings Obituary

Sue Ann (nee Lewis) Cummings, 80, passed away January 26, 2021. She was born in Dayton, OH on October 2, 1940 to the late Howard and Louise (nee Brining) Lewis. She met her husband of 58 years, James L. Cummings, at Ohio University where they became college sweethearts.  After graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science in Home Economics, Sue Ann and Jim married on July 21, 1962 and moved to Akron, OH where Sue Ann began her teaching career at Jennings Junior High.  She later worked for many years for the Wadsworth School District as a substitute teacher.

After moving to Wadsworth in 1967, she began her most treasured career, that of mother to her son Jeffrey (Kimberly) of Wadsworth, OH and daughter Deborah (Thomas Timcho) of Worthington, OH. She was blessed with three beautiful granddaughters, Kaitlyn, Katherine Ann, and Elizabeth Louise. She also leaves behind her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Carole Cummings, and her niece, Jennifer (Chris) Finan and great-niece, Erin.

Sue Ann was an active member of The Christian Science Church of Medina, OH. As a longtime member, she served on numerous committees as well as Church Secretary for many years.

Sue Ann was an active member and served as an officer of many civic, service, and social organizations, including the Wadsworth Shade Tree Commission, the Woman's Club of Wadsworth, the Garden Club of Wadsworth, Meals on Wheels, the Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames of the 17th Century, and the Akron Association of Ohio University Women.

Sue Ann and Jim have been members of the Chippewa Yacht Club for over 40 years and shared a lifetime love of sailing.  They also traveled extensively over their 60 years together, visiting all 50 states and nine Canadian Provinces, along with multiple trips to Europe.

Until they are reunited, her loved ones wish her safe passage and fair winds on her next voyage.

The family will have a private service at Cox- McNulty Funeral Home in Wadsworth. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Wadsworth.
