Thelma Jane Mullens (nee Clay), 96 years of age, was reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband, Lonnie J. Mullens, on March 24, 2023, where they now live together in Eternal Peace.
Thelma was born on Ira Avenue in Akron, Ohio on September 28, 1926. She lived most of her life in Coventry Township, retired to Florida in 1989, and then returned to Akron in 2015. She was employed for many years at Yoder Brother’s Greenhouse and the Barberton Diamond Match. She was a member of Grace Bible Church in New Franklin, Ohio. Thelma loved working with flowers, bird watching, and doting on her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Thelma is preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie J. Mullens; brother, James Clay; and sons, Johnny Summerfield and Kenneth Madden. She is survived by her brother, Reverend Earl (Mary) Appleby; daughters, Patricia (Roger) Boden, Sherry (Lewis) Hitchcock, and Linda (Ernie) Grover; son, Raymond (Pam) Bartschy; 12 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and 19 great-great grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, March 30, 2023 from 5pm-7pm at Cox-McNulty Funeral Home (222 Norton Ave, Barberton). A Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, March 31, 2023 at 11am at the funeral home, with interment at Greenlawn Cemetery (2580 Romig Rd, Akron) to follow.
