Thomas J. Young, age 77, passed away October 9, 2025, at home surrounded by his family. He was born on November 16, 1947, in Wadsworth, Ohio.
Thomas served in the U.S. Navy from 1965 – 1968; he spent 3 years on the USS Gyatt DD-712 and 5 months on the USS Vogelgesang DD-862, both well-known Gearing-class destroyer ships.
He worked at BF Goodrich and then retired from Owens Corning in Medina. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, sports, Western movies, splitting wood, and gardening. He had a ton of friends, was quick witted and always made people laugh.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Katherine (Kabeller) Young; and his brothers, George and William Young.
Thomas is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 59 years, Connie; his three daughters: Cathy (Collin) VanNewkirk, Becky (Larry) Hambley and Carol Young; his grandchildren: Matthew Young, Kyle Hambley, Miranda Grzincic, Mitchell Hambley, Ryan VanNewkirk and Madison Carr; his seven great-grandchildren; his brother, Herbert Young; and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law; Sue and Vernon Kugle.
A private service will take place at the Ohio Western Reserve Cemetery at a later date.
