Victoria May Vrabcek (nee Rothermel) left this world on January 9, 2024, a few weeks before her 95th birthday, to be reunited with her husband of 74 years, Joseph. Vicky was also preceded in death by parents Florence and Richard Rothermel; sister Cecilia Rothermel; brother and sister-in-law William and Karen Rothermel; and sister-in-law Joan Rothermel. Vicky leaves behind daughter Susan V. Smith (Eric), son Michael J. Vrabcek (Adrianne), beloved granddaughters Rachel E. McGowan and Courtney A. Smith, sister Ruth Stephens (Butch); brothers Richard Rothermel and Ronald Rothermel (Joyce); along with numerous nieces and nephews, best friend Trudy Steiner, and many friends and relatives.
Vicky graduated from Barberton High School and worked at B&W. She married Joe when he returned from the Navy, and they moved to Richmond, VA. Ten years later they returned to Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio to raise their family. After being a homemaker for several years, Vicky resumed her career at Buckeye Biscuit. Once retired, Vicky and Joe returned to their roots in Barberton. Vicky loved being a mom, a grandma, decorating, gardening, polka dancing, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Devoted to Joe, Vicky moved with him to the Memory Care unit at St. Edward’s in Green in 2021 until his passing in 2022; then on to Assisted Living at St. Edwards in Fairlawn to be closer to family. The family sincerely thanks the wonderful people at both facilities, along with Summa Hospice, who lovingly cared for Vicky.
Donations may be made to The Village of St. Edward, 3131 Smith Road, Fairlawn, OH 44333. Cremation has taken place, and a private celebration of life will be held for family and friends.
