William “Bill” “Strawman” C. Bishop, age 81, passed away peacefully March 14, 2025. He was a proud Sgt. in the U.S. Marine Corp. during the Vietnam War. William received multiple medals, including: a Good Conduct Medal, a Presidential Unit Citation, a National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal, a Vietnam Campaign Medal, an Expert Marksman Rifle Badge and was with the 7th Engineer Battalion during the TET Offensive. He was an avid race car builder and overall enthusiast as well as an avid fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Cliff and Emma Parks of Lynchburg, TN and Arthur, Sr. and Margaret Bishop of Akron, Ohio; his parents: Arthur Bishop, Jr. and Catherine Parks Bishop; and his bonus mother, Ruth Bishop.
William is survived by his loving wife, Debra Metcalf Bishop; his children: Erik (Ashley) Bishop, Jessie Bishop, Christopher Bishop, Julie Bishop and his bonus daughter, Dena Metcalf; his sister, Candy Bishop Decourville; several nieces and nephews as well as his lifelong friend, John Lake.
The family would like to give special thanks to Justin T. Rogers Hospice in Copley, Ohio.
Calling Hours will be held Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Cox-McNulty Funeral Home, 222 Norton Avenue, Barberton, Ohio 44203.
